About Buzzz

Buzzz is an email and SMS platform that sends transactional email through an API and runs marketing campaigns from the same dashboard, built for South African developers and small businesses and billed in rand.

What Buzzz does

Transactional email API

Send receipts, password resets and one-time passcodes from your own app through a REST API or the @buzzzmail/node SDK. Batch up to 100 messages per call, schedule sends up to 72 hours ahead, and retry safely with an Idempotency-Key. Every message gets delivery, bounce and complaint events you can receive as signed webhooks.

Read the API docs

Marketing campaigns and automations

Design newsletters in a visual editor, target a list or a saved segment, and A/B test the subject line, the content or both. Automations send a welcome series or a drip with yes/no branches based on opens, clicks or segment membership.

SMS to South African phones

Send transactional and marketing SMS to South African phones from the same account. STOP replies are recorded as opt-outs automatically, so later campaigns skip those numbers.

SMTP relay and inbound email

Point WordPress, WooCommerce or Odoo at the Buzzz SMTP relay and send without a client library. Verify a domain for receiving and inbound mail reaches your app through the API with an email.received event.

What makes Buzzz different

Billed in rand at a fixed monthly price

SendGrid, Mailchimp and Resend all bill in US dollars, so a South African customer's email bill moves with the exchange rate. Buzzz prices and bills every plan in rand.

Compare Buzzz

SMS that reaches South African numbers

Mailchimp does not send SMS to South African phones. Buzzz sends SMS to local numbers, with separate allowances for marketing and transactional messages so a busy campaign never uses up your one-time passcodes.

Buzzz vs Mailchimp

Transactional and marketing email on one account

Mailchimp sells transactional email as a paid add-on. On Buzzz the API, campaigns, automations and SMS share one account, one contact list and one bill.

A free tier that does not expire

The Free plan includes 1,000 emails a month, API access and a custom sending domain, with no card required. SendGrid's free trial is more generous per day but ends after 60 days.

Buzzz vs SendGrid

Published sending standards

Buzzz warns an account at 2% hard bounces or 0.05% complaints and pauses its email at 4% or 0.08%, both below the levels at which AWS reviews a sending account. Platform-wide delivery rates are published every month, and a person answers every appeal within one South African business day.

The team behind Buzzz

Buzzz is built and operated by Beesworx (Pty) Ltd, a South African software company that also makes RevEx, a billing platform. RevEx sends its own account email through Buzzz.

Brian Machimbira

Co-founder and CTO. Brian builds and runs the Buzzz platform and its sending infrastructure.

Faith Makhathini

Co-founder, product and delivery. Faith leads the Buzzz product and how it reaches customers.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free plan?

Yes. The Free plan includes 1,000 emails a month, API access and one custom sending domain, and it does not expire. No card is needed to sign up.

Does Buzzz bill in rand?

Yes. Every plan is priced and billed in South African rand at a fixed monthly price, so your email bill does not change with the dollar exchange rate.

Is Buzzz cheaper than SendGrid or Resend?

Not always. If you only need transactional API sending at 50,000 to 100,000 emails a month, SendGrid and Resend can cost less. Buzzz is priced for teams that also want SMS, campaigns, automations and inbound email, billed in rand.

Can I send SMS to South African numbers?

Yes. Paid plans include marketing and transactional SMS allowances for South African numbers. Opt-out replies such as STOP are honoured automatically.

Can I use Buzzz with WordPress or WooCommerce?

Yes. Point your site's SMTP settings at the Buzzz SMTP relay and use an API key as the password. The From address must be on a domain you have verified in Buzzz.

What happens if my bounce or complaint rate is high?

Buzzz emails the account owners a warning at 2% hard bounces or 0.05% complaints, and pauses email sending at 4% or 0.08%. A person reviews every appeal within one South African business day.

How does Buzzz handle personal information under POPIA?

Buzzz publishes a POPIA notice, a data processing agreement for customers, and a list of every region your data passes through. For the contacts you upload, you decide how they are used and Buzzz processes them on your behalf.
